General Information
Abbot's Langley is in Cashio Hundred which is suitated between Watford and Hemel Hempstead.
The word "Langley" is Anglo Saxon which means long 'ley'. Ley meaning a clearing in an area of woodland and swamps. This 'Long Clearing' was soon home to Farms and later in history villages.
During the reign of Edward the Confessor (C1042 – 1066), this land was given to the Abbots of St Albans. This suggests the name "Abbot's Langley".
